Guatemala is an ideal travel destination for travelers ranging from backpackers and adventurers to those looking to relax and surround themselves with luxury. Guatemala is the northernmost country in Central America, bordering Mexico to the north, Belize to the east, and Honduras and El Salvador to the south. It has a great variety of destinations and activities with options ranging from lounging on tropical beaches to trekking sky scraping volcanoes and nearly everything in between. It is an incredibly diverse country with hot, humid coastal lowlands and beaches, a mild temperate climate in the central highlands, which include the most populous and most visited areas of the country including Guatemala City, Antigua, Lago de Atitlan and Xela (Quetzaltenango), and high mountainous regions where the temperature actually get quite cool.

The country is also home to an amazing amount of culture ranging from some of the world’s most incredible Mayan ruins and traditional Mayan villages to the Caribbean Garifuna culture in Livingston. One can spend the morning swimming under turquoise blue limestone waterfalls, and the evening basking in freshwater hot springs or wake up to a sunset in a tent near the peak of an active volcano. Guatemala’s main tourist destinations are very safe and little crime is experienced in well-known tourist destinations such as Lago de Atitlan.
